When a title changes hands, the victor usually celebrates
as it is a culmination of years of preparing for the moment , while the vanquished hangs her head in defeat and moves quietly into the background. After this title matchup, neither was true.

Daniella Cartier defeated Alex Del Monacco with a brilliant performance, become the first three-time ACW Champion. The match certainly was not an easy one as both girls were at the top of their game. Cartier having battled injuries for two years had her game face on, taunting Del Monacco repeatedly. Alex, after the grind of hundreds of title defenses was ready for Daniella, regardless of the trash talk. In the end, Daniella was too strong for the champion, pining her and reclaiming the belt. Unfortunately, the win came at a cost as Cartier suffered a serious back injury from a flying tackle early in the match by Alex. She was rushed to the hospital where she stayed overnight before being released.

For Alex, the loss was devastating, but did little to deter her optimism. “Sure, losing the belt, or losing period sucks, I mean I’m a winner, so this doesn’t sit well with me. Daniella did a great job so my hat is off to her. I hope she enjoys her time because I am coming after the belt, my belt,” said Del Monacco. When asked if the trash-talking and the “I’m the Champ” campaign launched by Cartier played into her loss, Del Monacco stated “Absolutely not, Daniella won because she was able to pin me. I had opportunities to pin her and I didn’t get the job done but that crap didn’t intimidate me or distract me.”

For Alex, the moment is bittersweet. Although she wants to go after the belt immediately, she has the option of taking a well deserved break, allowing her body to heal and to pursue other options. She recently appeared in the title role of the movie “Thong Girl 3″ and has a number of other pending offers. It might be wise for her to pursue these but she still seems intent on keeping apartment wrestling as her priority. ” I’ve gone through hell the last few years to hold onto the belt and to be the best in the business and that’s hard to get out of your system. I’m going to take a few weeks to weigh my options and then I’ll decide what to do.”

Other ACW competitors are not waiting to see what Alex will do. Brycee Adams is making a charge towards the top and looks to be in the best shape of her life. Rosario Delgado also wants to be in the title mix and has stepped up her game recently. Now comes word that Diane Hunter may come out of retirement to pose a challenge to the new champion. One thing for sure is that no one seems to be standing still and there will be no rest for the weary. The passion for the belt seems to be at an all time high which may not be the best thing for Daniella as she may have to work through another injury.

Commentary within the promotion is running high. “Daniella whipped her ass, and now I’m going to whip hers,” says Delgado, with more than a little emphasis. I had one match against Daniella and she’s ducked me for three years since. That bitch can’t hide no more! Others believe this may only be a small setback for Del Monacco. “As great as Daniella is, no one has had a title run like Alex. I mean it is unprecedented in the history of apartment wrestling,” says Stu Albright of Catfight Today Magazine.

The match and all of the anticipation for it made history, but for ACW, it looks like a prosperous chapter may now be starting. With an emphasis on the title, the grapplers are setting their sights high which promises for an interesting and exciting summer.
