She is the island flower - a beautiful woman with roots that belie her abilities as a strong, tough grappler. This dichotomy, however, makes her all the more compelling and potentially all the more dangerous.
Miranda grew up on Kauai in the Hawaiian Islands. Her parents were land developers with property holdings in Kauai, Maui and in Honolulu. Due to their vast holdings, her family was among the wealthiest in Hawaii. For Miranda, this translated into a life of childhood bliss. Her parents loved to spoil their oldest daughter and spared no expense to bring her happiness. Miranda received private schooling within the families enormous compound and was shuttled around Kauai and between islands by the families attending staff. The life of being treated like a princess was a fascinating one - and yet it left the young girl with an unexplained void. While appreciative of the comforts afforded by her situation, she often tired of being waited on hand and foot, opting instead to do things for herself.
Miranda often yearned for a life of normalcy, and frequently tried to blend in when she visited Honolulu but she ended up spending most of her time isolated on Kauai. When she was 17, however, her life took an interesting twist. A German sports magazine rented a section of her families beachfront property for a swimsuit photo shoot. Miranda walked down to the location and watched the production. After being introduced to the photographer, one of the models suggested that he take some photos of Miranda. Miranda was a natural, and though initially shy, she quickly warmed to the camera.
The photographer took a liking to her and persuaded her parents to let her model for a few regional advertisements. Two weeks after her 18th birthday she was working as a model in a magazine layout for an upscale jewelry chain in Boca Raton, Florida. While in Miami for dinner one night she had a chance meeting with Niki Foxe, an aspiring apartment wrestler. When Foxe explained her goals and the background of the apartment wrestling industry, Miranda was spellbound. Never before had she heard of anything like it and it seemed different from anything she had ever done in her life. Intrigued, she asked Niki to demonstrate some catfighting techniques. Amused at the naive island girl, Foxe showed her a couple of holds when they arrived back at Foxe's hotel room. Much to both of their surprise, Miranda was able to keep Foxe at bay with surprising strength and leverage.
Niki Foxe knew a number of different joint locks and painful submission holds and was able to keep the upperhand on Alexander but the two women were pretty evenly matched, each possessing a talent different from the other. Miranda had never met anyone like Foxe. Direct and to the point, Niki didn't treat Miranda with kids gloves or as a princess. Having grown up pampered and protected, Miranda enjoyed being treated like a normal person. Foxe noticed the sophisticated air with which Miranda carried herself and enjoyed giving her a hard time and treating her like the common folk.
As Miranda prepared to return to Hawaii, Niki received a call from an agent who represented a Chicago-based promotion scouting for new girls and wanted to meet Niki. Miranda accompanied Niki to the meeting and met with with Nite Void, the head promoter for the Nite Fights promotion. Void expressed an interest in signing both of them and Foxe immediately accepted the offer and signed a contract. Miranda, although prepared to return home, was intrigued by the idea of doing something she was so unaccustomed to and unexpectedly signed a contract.
Niki and Miranda moved into a small apartment in Chicago. For the island princess it was a shocking adjustment. The girl who lived a life of luxury and splendor now found herself sharing a cramped apartment with a stranger. "The Princess," however, was intrigued with the idea of roughing it - it felt liberating and invigorating.
Nite Void decided to bring the girls along slowly, training them before providing them with real competition. Niki, however, grew anxious and impatient. After complaining to one of Nite's partners, Niki asked him if there was anything he could do to help her gain some live experience. He suggested that the girls shop themselves around to other promotions and suggested that they contact ACW. Niki and Miranda met with an ACW representative in Chicago and signed on with the promotion. Days later, however, Nite Fights filed a lawsuit against ACW, claiming that ACW had interfered with Nite Fights' contract with Foxe and Alexander.
Tanako X, President of ACW, was furious in that Niki had represented that both girls were free to negotiate and sign with ACW when in fact they were already under contract. "I was first inclined to dump the girls and wash my hands of them," said X. "I talked to Miranda, however, and she explained that one of the Nite Fights representatives had directed her to approach ACW. An investigation later confirmed that a group of the Nite Fights partners were trying to wrestle control of the company away from Void, and instigated the disruption for their purposes." While X did not immediately fire the girls from the promotion, he did make them pay their dues.
Niki and Miranda were enrolled in the ACW Training Academy at the promotion's Chicago Dojo. The girls were put through their paces by the ACW training staff and were pushed to their limits. While Niki became frustrated and threatened to quit, Miranda saw it as a learning experience and began to adapt to the strict regimen.
X decided to pit the two girls against one another in order to determine which one had the competitive desire for success. The two girls trained against each other every day and began learning each others patterns. More importantly for Miranda, she began noticing her own weaknesses and common mistakes. X noticed her steady improvement and her positive attitude and assigned some of the veteran performers to work with her. The veterans were so enamored with her eagerness and pleasant demeanor that they took her under their wing and spent extra time with her. The lessons helped noticeably and X proclaimed her ready for her first official match. Her opponent? Niki Foxe.
X decided that the winner of the first match would be allowed to take part in official competition while the loser would be reassigned to the Training Academy for six months or released. In the match, Miranda took advantage of Foxe's overconfidence and over-aggressiveness and secured a win against her friend. While an angry Foxe stormed off after the match, Miranda realized that she had passed the first hurdle within the promotion and therefore opened the door to her new career.
