Miranda often yearned for a life of normalcy, and frequently tried to blend in when she visited Honolulu but she ended up spending most of her time isolated on Kauai. When she was 17, however, her life took an interesting twist. A German sports magazine rented a section of her families beachfront property for a swimsuit photo shoot. Miranda walked down to the location and watched the production. After being introduced to the photographer, one of the models suggested that he take some photos of Miranda. Miranda was a natural, and though initially shy, she quickly warmed to the camera.

The photographer took a liking to her and persuaded her parents to let her model for a few regional advertisements. Two weeks after her 18th birthday she was working as a model in a magazine layout for an upscale jewelry chain in Boca Raton, Florida. While in Miami for dinner one night she had a chance meeting with Niki Foxe, an aspiring apartment wrestler. When Foxe explained her goals and the background of the apartment wrestling industry, Miranda was spellbound. Never before had she heard of anything like it and it seemed different from anything she had ever done in her life. Intrigued, she asked Niki to demonstrate some catfighting techniques. Amused at the naive island girl, Foxe showed her a couple of holds when they arrived back at Foxe's hotel room. Much to both of their surprise, Miranda was able to keep Foxe at bay with surprising strength and leverage.
