Daniella Cartier vs. Diane Hunter - apartmentwrestlers.com

The last year and a half has been very good for ACW Champion Diane Hunter. After ten years of struggling for a shot at greatness in the field of apartment wrestling, Hunter was finally able to put everything together and mounting a vigorous and highly touted series of matches against then-champion Daniella Cartier. After nearly pulling a number of upsets, Hunter finally reigned supreme, defeating Cartier in the what was called “Match of the Year” by Catfight Tonite magazine.

Daniella Cartier - apartmentwrestlers.com After years of hardship and struggles, Hunter was unable to fully savor her monumental victory and bitter chastised ACW officials and the apartment wrestling world as a whole. As if to demonstrate how difficult her quest had been on her, she refused to give Cartier an immediate rematch. Through political maneuvering based in part on the temporary upending of Tanako X’s reign as ACW President, Hunter was able to avoid a rematch with Cartier until November 30, 2005. With many believing Hunter would refuse to show up or pull a stunt, the champion not only showed up, but dared Cartier to take the belt from her.

The match began with Daniella as the aggressor. launching herself at the champion and mounting a ferocious attack. Although seemingly prepared for the offensive flurry by the challenger, Hunter was barely able to counter the assault. Cartier grabbed Hunter, scooped her off of the ground and in one motion seemed poised to body slam her to the ground, but caught herself and realized that a disqualification would end her title dreams. After dropping Diane on the ground like a sack of potatoes, she planted a stiff kick in the champions back.

Undaunted, the champion showed that her time in the spotlight had helped her develop a supreme confidence as she got right back in Cartier’s faces, taunting her repeatedly, telling her “this is my belt, this is my belt.”

In the midst of their trash-talk, Hunter failed to notice that Cartier was pre-occupied with something behind her back. When Hunter’s attention finally focused on her Daniella’s hands, Cartier revealed gloves on her hands and landed a haymaker across the side of the champion’s head. Reeling, Hunter fell onto the couch in a daze. Cartier sprang onto her like a leopard, launching into the air and kneeing her in the ribs, again and again.

After escaping from her predicament, Diane chastised the challenger for the use of the gloves and as Cartier moved in to continue her assault, Hunter deftly slipped to the side, letting the challenger shoot past her, losing her balance. Hunter immediate secured a guillotine choke hold on her. On the verge of being choked out, Daniella regained her composure and bucked like a bronco, forcing Hunter to release her hold. As the two talked back and forth, Cartier charged, grabbing the champion and lifted her off of the ground and pressed her against the wall.

While she had the champion on the ropes, she was unable to put her away. Working on the defensive, Diane countered every move. The two brawled, rolling around on and off of the bed. Diane attempted several times to get Cartier in a painful hold but Cartier countered by slapping and kicking her way out of danger.

When Hunter momentarily lost her balance, Cartier grabbed her from behind, bending Diane over on the bed, and in a surreal moment simulated sex with her asking “Is this how Tanako did, is this the way he did it to you,” referencing her allegations that Hunter had traded sexual favors to gain the belt. She then rolled Hunter onto her back and mounted her again, holding onto the headboard for balance. In a frenzy, she ripped the headboard off of the wall. A flippant Diane quipped “look what you did to the bed, and now that you’re not the champ, you’re a broke bitch and you can’t pay for it.” Cartier ran and grabbed the headboard and chased the champion back into the other room.

Back in the other room, Daniella caught Hunter and delivered three back-breakers, rolling her off of her knee in a broken heap. Poised to spring onto her for a pin attempt, Cartier was startled when Hunter countered with another scissor hold maneuver around the challenger’s neck Daniella countered by lifting the champion off of the ground and delivered a pseudo-power bomb, to loosen the hold.

Hunter seemed to recognize that she was in for the fight or her life and decided to take the fight to Cartier. Knocking her back onto her back, Hunter climbed forward, pressing her knees into Daniella’s shoulders. Ready to begin counting, Diane was tossed off and the two began trash-talking again.

Hunter made her move, wrapping her legs around Cartier’s waist from behind and grabbing her by the elbows, pinning her arms behind her back. Cartier struggled to escape the hold. Rolling the two onto the ground, Daniella tried to break loose but Hunter held firm, refusing to relinquish the hold.

Lying on top of the champion, Cartier appeared unable to escape the hold and it appeared that Hunter would be able to force her to tap out. Whether through desperation or simply outstanding planning, Cartier began thrusting her rear-end downwards into Hunter’s crotch, Finally, she broke the hold.

A sober Diane Hunter simply laughed as she walked out of the room, saying “I’m not looking for a rematch. I don’t want nothing from any of you.”

In the hours after the match, Hunter has hinted that she may retire or go to the Far East to tour in Japan and Korea. Cartier, on the other hand is excited about having the belt again, but knows that the influx of new talent in ACW may be a new can of worms for her. “That’s a challenge I’m ready to take on, .. and it’s easier to do it as the champ!”
